The discussion on the characteristics of the calligraphers Zhang Xu and Huai Su in the Tang Dynasty is in line with the traditional calligraphic discourse of Liu Xizai’s “Introduction to Art”, which states that “Zhang Chang Shi’s calligraphy is both sad and happy, and Huai Su’s calligraphy is both sad and happy,” and discusses the main issue of calligraphy in contemporary creation.
