Editing Made in Taiwan: Studies in Popular Music may be as closest as I can get to fulfilling some “national” commitment in my academic career, so far. However, this ostensible purpose goes against the kind of transnationalizing and de-nationalizing stance that I have practiced in my research. In this presentation, I will share and reflecting on the process of editing this book about Taiwanese popular music and about research on Taiwanese popular music. Made in Taiwan is at least three things: (1) it is a commodity in the market of international academic publishing; (2) it is a product of long-term regional interactions among inter-Asia popular music studies researchers; and finally, (3) it is, hopefully, an ongoing process of creating a local network of popular music studies researchers
